Marvel SDCC 2022 predictions: 15 things to expect from this year's Comic-Con panel (1)

The Marvel SDCC 2022 panel is the hottest ticket in town. It's expected that Marvel Studios will unveil first looks at a handful of new projects on Saturday, July 23 – while showing off trailers and teasers for its upcoming slate of already-announced movies and Disney Plus shows.

But what's set to go down in Hall H? While second guessing what Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has up his sleeve is never wise, there are several announcements that look likely. There are even a few outside chances that could keep things interesting as the panel wears on. On top of that, there's a Marvel Studios animation panel running this Friday. While the focus is on live action here, there's plenty to get excited about with the roster of Disney Plus' animated output. Be sure to check out the list of new Marvel TV shows for a taste of what to expect and keep an eye on the full SDCC 2022 schedule for more on the pop culture extravaganza's big return.

Below, we'll run you through our Marvel SDCC 2022 predictions: the trailers, teasers, announcements – and possible surprises. In the past, we've had shock cast announcements (think Brie Larson as Captain Marvel), major sequel teases, and the Avengers assembling. With Marvel Phase 4 heading into the home stretch, it's time to look towards the MCU's exciting future – and the foundations for that start right here.

Expect a new She-Hulk trailer – and surprise appearances

Marvel SDCC 2022 predictions: 15 things to expect from this year's Comic-Con panel (3)

She-Hulk is Marvel Studios' next big live-action project. Set to drop on Disney Plus on August 17, the series will follow the trials and tribulations – with emphasis on trials – of superhero lawyer Jennifer Walters (played by Orphan Black's Tatiana Maslany). Hulk's mean, green cousin will bump into Mark Ruffalo's Bruce Banner and Tim Roth's Abomination along the way, while butting heads with new Marvel villain Titania (Jameela Jamil).

SDCC, then, is the perfect place for the hype train to really leave the station. A new trailer is a lock, while we can expect some mentions of how everything ties into the MCU-at-large. Don't be surprised to hear all about some extra special cameos, too. Matt Murdock/Daredevil has his fingers in a few legal pies – and his path could quite easily cross with She-Hulk this summer.

Marvel SDCC 2022 predictions: 15 things to expect from this year's Comic-Con panel (4)

Another realistic pick to get a fair amount of stage time is Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Ryan Coogler's directorial follow-up to his billion-dollar MCU hit will surely pay tribute to late T'Challa actor Chadwick Boseman, all while continuing the story of his sister Shuri, and Wakandan allies Nakia and Okoye.

There's been lots of talk of Marvel anti-hero Namor making his bow in Wakanda Forever. That casting could be confirmed here. We'd love for Michael B. Jordan to show up on stage and announce a Killmonger return, but that's more of a hope than an expectation. There will surely be first footage, and maybe even talk of Wakanda spin-offs across what will surely be one of the more sizeable segments on the night.

Guardians of the Galaxy 3 gets properly unveiled

Marvel SDCC 2022 predictions: 15 things to expect from this year's Comic-Con panel (5)

James Gunn has already been none-too-subtle about a Hall H presence for the Guardians. Guardians of the Galaxy 3 – the last with this current team – is out next year, while there's also a Christmas Special on the way. Given the franchise's penchant for style and flair, a handful of pieces of concept art would surely be enough to capture our collective attention. Gunn might even wheel out some brief footage for the ravenous Hall H crowd, as well as the first appearance of Will Poulter's Adam Warlock.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania: a belated look at Kang

Marvel SDCC 2022 predictions: 15 things to expect from this year's Comic-Con panel (6)

Ant-Man movies have (relatively speaking) felt a little low-key by MCU standards. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, the third in the series, is bucking that trend. That's all because it features Jonathan Majors' Kang. The next Marvel Big Bad will be up to something in Quantumania – and we should find out exactly what those plans entail at SDCC. Rumors suggest Corey Stoll will make a return (though not as Yellowjacket, oddly). Our prediction? A full look at the proper Kang design after it was teased during the final seconds of Loki's first season.

Werewolf by Night announcement

Marvel SDCC 2022 predictions: 15 things to expect from this year's Comic-Con panel (7)

Now this is out of left field. A Halloween-themed Marvel project has been whispered about for some time. Werewolf by Night could be it. Set to be directed by Michael Giacchino and reportedly starring Gael Garcia Bernal, Werewolf by Night is likely to focus on the second incarnation of the character, Jake Gomez – who transforms into a werewolf at a young age after being inflicted with a family curse. This could come out as soon as this Halloween, so this could get the full works: title, trailer, and casting.

The Marvels: more from Ms. Marvel

Marvel SDCC 2022 predictions: 15 things to expect from this year's Comic-Con panel (8)

Excitement for The Marvels was dialed up a little further after the Ms. Marvel finale. That post-credits scene revealed how Kamala Khan's path would intertwine with that of her idol, Carol Danvers. Thanks to Iman Vellani's incredible performance as Kamala, expect her to hold a lot of the spotlight if Marvel Studios rolls out more info about The Marvels, the Captain Marvel sequel that also features WandaVision's Monica Rambeau. A minute or two of behind-the-scenes footage is a safe bet.

Secret Invasion proves what a big deal it really is

Marvel SDCC 2022 predictions: 15 things to expect from this year's Comic-Con panel (9)

Secret Invasion appears to be undergoing reshoots right now, so any hopes of a 2022 release date are fading fast. Kevin Feige will want to keep momentum up, however, and there's no better way than giving Secret Invasion a grand coming out party on the biggest stage possible. Story details surrounding the Skrulls will likely fly around, as will the top-secret identities of those in the star-studded cast, which include Samuel L. Jackson, Olivia Colman, and Emilia Clarke. Given the title – and its comic book roots – this could be an important chapter in Marvel's next saga. If that's the case, we'll hear all about it on Saturday evening.

Captain America 4 gets a title

Marvel SDCC 2022 predictions: 15 things to expect from this year's Comic-Con panel (10)

Sam Wilson is Captain America. After The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, there's no debate on who now holds the star-spangled shield in the MCU. Sam's first standalone adventure will be the fourth Captain America movie. A director – Julius Onah – has only just been attached, so we predict we won't see much more than a title and maybe a villain announcement if we're lucky.

Daredevil will bring the house down

Marvel SDCC 2022 predictions: 15 things to expect from this year's Comic-Con panel (11)

Matt Murdock returned in Spider-Man: No Way Home and a standalone Disney Plus series always felt like the logical next step. The roof will be raised if Charlie Cox makes an appearance. If the panel needs some extra goodwill, it could do a lot worse than Marvel Studios announcing the return of Daredevil – complete with returning cast members, such as Vincent D'Onofrio's Kingpin.

Echo will be hiding its own set of surprises

Marvel SDCC 2022 predictions: 15 things to expect from this year's Comic-Con panel (12)

Echo, the Hawkeye spin-off starring Alaqua Cox as the Deaf vigilante, is on the way. That much we know. There has long been industry talk of Echo being flanked by some familiar faces, however. Daredevil is one, Kingpin is another. If you believe one report from The Hollywood Reporter (opens in new tab), then Jessica Jones will also appear – again played by Krysten Ritter.

Ryan Reynolds quips about Deadpool 3

Marvel SDCC 2022 predictions: 15 things to expect from this year's Comic-Con panel (13)

Now we're getting into shaky territory. In truth, Marvel Studios has enough to fill an entire day's worth of Comic-Con panels. A fair amount will be held back until Disney's own D23 event in September. Deadpool 3 could be one of them, but it certainly has more of a Comic-Con vibe compared to Disney's more family-friendly fare. If the MCU is going to go R-Rated (and Kevin Feige has already confirmed it will with Deadpool), then Deadpool's potty mouth could be unleashed here. Don't bring your kids.

Fantastic Four could kill off John Krasinski's Mister Fantastic for good

Marvel SDCC 2022 predictions: 15 things to expect from this year's Comic-Con panel (14)

There's no guarantee that John Krasinski's version of Mister Fantastic in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will be the one we see in Marvel's upcoming Fantastic Four. Comic-Con is a perfect occasion to find out the full cast for Fantastic Four, as well as the incoming director to replace Jon Watts. The movie is a couple of years away, but the Marvel SDCC 2022 panel could tee it all up with a reveal for the ages.

X-Men is a pipe dream, but not completely unrealistic

Marvel SDCC 2022 predictions: 15 things to expect from this year's Comic-Con panel (15)

We get it, Marvel. You're setting up the mutants. Ms. Marvel's shock finale reveal showed Marvel Studios' hand when it comes to the X-Men. What next? And how do you bring an entire roster of mutant heroes into the MCU without disrupting everything? Kevin Feige has an answer for seemingly everything – and we might get another brief tease on the mutants during the panel.

Shock castings

Marvel SDCC 2022 predictions: 15 things to expect from this year's Comic-Con panel (16)

Doctor Doom, anyone? Marvel loves a surprise casting announcement – and the Latverian villain will be right at the top of most fans' wishlists. There was some talk that he would appear during Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. If that's the case, Marvel Studios will want to get bums in seats later this year with a killer actor to really kickstart the MCU's exciting future.

A full look at Marvel Phase 5

Marvel SDCC 2022 predictions: 15 things to expect from this year's Comic-Con panel (17)

In 2019, Kevin Feige helped unveil the full Phase 4 slate. It probably won't be the same again this time, but we'll certainly get a taste of the road Marvel is going down as it hurtles towards Phase 4. The panel will almost definitely end with a fancy graphic, giving fans a full overview of what's to come in the next 18 months-two years. Then, let the wild theories and intense speculation begin.
